In recent years, my paintings have become an exploration of the idea of the “space between” and the interpretation of “Ma” – the Japanese concept of space as a positive entity as opposed to absence. My goal is to deliver the feeling of an emptiness full of possibilities. At first my paintings may appear minimalistic in nature, but they are actually more reductive in approach – as I work on them, I go through a process of building color and space and only leave the most essential elements of a composition. The hope is that these paintings will allow the viewer the opportunity to experience a sense of space which makes room for their own thoughts and emotions without a predetermined purpose or meaning.
