Why has our relationship with mystery been dulled and belittled?

The root of the word imagine is to sense, not to invent, but to become aware of. To daydream, to use physic perception, to sense the unseen world is threatening to people who want control and to oppress, why? In this world imagining is a radical act. When the culture creates a world of isolation and dis-empowerment what stories, what imaginations do we need to restore our sovereignty?
