ALLISON HMURA

My work explores the conversation between anatomy and landscape—the relationship between the body and its environment. I am interested in how our bodies respond to the places we enter, and how certain locations can evoke physical sensations, emotions, and memories. Through my work, I explore the ways a place can live within the body long after we have left it.
Art has become a way for me to find peace in places that hold difficult memories, while also celebrating the places that hold moments of joy, comfort, and connection. By bringing anatomy and landscape together, I create a space where personal memory and environment can exist alongside one another, reflecting the ways our surroundings shape how we feel, remember, and heal.
