In spring 2010, Michael Knutson was included in two exhibitions at the American Academy of Arts & Letters in New York. The Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts was a group show of works by thirty contemporary artists nominated by members of the Academy, followed by the Exhibition of Work by Newly Elected Members and Recipients of Honors and Awards. Knutson's painting, Tripolar Coils VI, was purchased by the Academy and donated to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art in Arizona.
