Homage to Picasso’s Guernica: encaustic work by Karen Ehlers and Jan Cavecche recreates Picasso’s political masterpiece as a response to the Iraq war. On display in the Blackfish Gallery, Window Project I.

The Pacifist Potential, Blackfish Gallery, a themed group art exhibition featuring Blackfish artists and guest artists from Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, San Franciso, Chicago, Germany, and Czech Republic.

The Casualties of War, an installation by Theresa Redinger and Christopher Shotola-Hardt. On display in the Blackfish Gallery, Window Projects I & II.

Wednesday, June 6, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Preview party with artists

Thursday, June 7, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
First Thursday art exhibit “The Pacifist Potential” opening reception for the artists.

Readers Theatre Repertory
presents What I Heard About Iraq, by Simon Levy. At the First Unitarian Church Of Portland. (1011 SW 12th Ave). 

Saturday, June 9, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Panel: Defining Pacifism. Panelists from different backgrounds, religions, and experience to help us understand pacifism. (Steven Bailey, Ralph Beebe, Howard Neufeld, Bob Schaibly, Michael Sonnleitner.)

Sunday, June 10, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Panel: Everyday Pacifism. A panel discussion of how we can live day to day as pacifists, how pacifism affects our every interaction, and how we live in and share the world. (Sharif Abdullah, Annie Heart, Laura Merrill, Bob Schaibly)

Friday, June 15 & Saturday, June 16, 8:00 p.m.
Readers Theatre Repertory presents Bury the Dead, by Irwin Shaw.

Tuesday, June 19, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Panel: Challenging & Questioning Pacifism. A diverse panel to pose challenges to pacifism. Can it really work in solving the types of global conflicts we now face? What might our approach be to the crises in the Middle East from a pacifist mindset? (Steven Bailey, David Bean, Joy Ellison, Ezra Ereckson, Ron Mock.)

Friday, June 22, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Screening of the documentary “Military Families Speak Out: Oregon Chapter” An introduction by the filmmaker, and a follow-up discussion with members of the families who appear in the film.

Saturday, June 23, 7:30 p.m
“Give Peace a Chance: Songwriters’ Circle”: Featuring Stephen Cohen With Alan Ames, Jon Koonce, Mo Mack, Anne Weiss, and Bug Toast. (Call 503.244.2634 for ticket reservation, $10 - $20 donation will be collected night of the performance, tickets on WILL CALL)

Sunday, June 24, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Panel: “Footprints of Pacifism” The Conscientious Objector Camps of World War II (Doug Erickson, Paul Merchant, Jeremy Skinner), followed by Workshop: How to Assemble a Conscientious Objector File (Michael Sonnleitner).

Saturday, June 30, 7:30 p.m.
The chamber group Third Angle New Music Ensemble performs the American premieres of two works for string quartet by Tomas Svoboda: his fourth string quartet, written in response to the Iraq War, and a meditation on peace for string quartet and clarinet. (Call 503.244.2634 for ticket reservation, $10 - $20 donation will be collected night of the performance, tickets on WILL CALL).
